I have been trekking with Footloose, a 100% trustworthy agency, for close to a decade. This December, I went on the 7-day Mardi Himal trek with my guide Tsering Dorjee Sherpa and porter Sugil. It was an awesome trek with gorgeous views of the Himalayas and Mt Machhapuchhre as the main star! This is a very manageable trek especially if you do not have time to do a longer one. Tsering was a fantastic guide. He was patient, attentive, and respectful. I had another brilliant trek with Footloose. Highly recommended.

We booked this private trek for the two of us directly with Footloose. Dawa was extremely quick to respond to our requests and questions from the outset. Everything was really well arranged from start to finish. Both Karma and Dawa met with us at the start and end of the trek to ensure we were happy, which was appreciated. Our guide, Hari Khadka, really made the trek special for us and was outstanding in every respect. He spoke excellent English and was a permanent source of interesting information about local culture, wildlife and the areas we trekked through. Hari organised each night's accommodation, advised on the best local food and ensured we were looked after really well. He discussed the itinerary together with options for the next day every evening. We had an absolutely amazing time, and will definitely use Footloose for our next trek in Nepal, with Hari as our guide.
View complete reviewThe first ever Trekking and Mountaineering Company in Nepal was Mountain Travel, founded in the early 1960s by Gurkha Officer Col. Jimmy Roberts, but managed from the 1970's by Mike Cheney and Purna Sherpa. From these men and their commitment to the welfare of the staff (guides and porters), the comfort and safety of their clients, and their respect for the countryside and environment, all the ethos of the current trekking industry in Nepal descends. After Mountain Travel was sold, they went on to start Sherpa Co-Operative Trekking, and Rover Treks & Expeditions, helped in no small part by the young British company Exodus Treks, who committed their Nepalese clients to Mike and Purna's expert hands. The Manager of Footloose in the Himalaya is Purna's son, Karma, who has inherited all the wealth of experience of his father, and continues to put it to superb use today. I have been looked after by Karma and his staff since Purna died, and can guarantee that whether you want a full scale assault on an 8000m peak or a gentle trek around the foothills, Karma has the expertise, the staff, the equipment and the commitment to make your trip truly memorable.
Footloose in the Himalaya arranged everything for us from the moment we touched down in Kathmandu. All logistics were very well organised which was a real achievement given the fuel crisis during our visit. We also made changes to our itinerary which they accommodated very well. Our Sherpa team were very friendly, hard working and good humoured. I'd have no hesitation recommending Footloose and plan to take another trip with them in the future.
